Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, is an important holiday celebrated by most Indians of all faiths including Jains, Buddhists and Sikhs. It is celebrated in late October or November, the dates determined by the Hindu lunar calendar.

Because fireworks are often a part of Diwali celebrations, many cities and towns have approved ordinances for consumer fireworks use the day before, the day of and the day after Diwali.
